ΤHE CULTURAL PROFILE OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF EGIROS
The newly established municipality of Egiros consists of nine villages. These settlements were created several decades ago by refugees who came from Eastern Thrace and the M. Asia.
Thus the population of our municipality is composed of different tribes, such as Thracians, from Asia Minor, from Pontus, Sarakatsanoi and finally of the Greek Muslim minority
This diversity of the population, that comprises the city, shows how interesting is the cultural heritage, customs and traditions the refugees brought from their lost homelands.
The municipal enterprise of our municipality seeing this wealth of material culture from the beginning sought to record and promote this cultural and folk material.
Έτσι καταγράφει όλη την πολιτιστική κληρονομιά χωριστά για κάθε οικισμό, είτε με συνεντεύξεις με γέροντες και γερόντισσες για την καταγραφή διάφορων τραγουδιών, λαϊκών παροιμιών, μουσικών ακουσμάτων και παραμυθιών, είτε με καταγραφή εθίμων λαϊκών γιορτών, πανηγυριών. Παράλληλα η δημοτική επιχείρηση του δήμου θέλει βοηθώντας τον κάθε πολιτιστικό σύλλογο κάθε οικισμού να αναβιώσει όλα αυτά τα έθιμα και να μην χαθούν στο πέρασμα του χρόνου.

During all months of the year there are various cultural events of local cultural associations with the assist of the municipality.
Some villages in the municipality are coastal, with rich cultural activity with numerous events over the summer months.
These settlements can then easily reveal past celebrations of the fishermen and people in general dealing with the sea. For this reason the municipality is organizing various events such as the maritime week with various water sports, swimming, rowing, etc. and the feast of sardines,with free fresh sardines from the clean waters of the Thracian Sea, popular folk songs and revelry.
So with these activities in coastal settlements, the municipality develops cultural tourism, as thousands of tourists from various parts of Greece and Europe visit these summer settlements. This way is the best presentation of the cultural heritage of the municipality and settlements beyond the borders of Greece.
The specificity of the cultural agenda of the municipality may include various events of the Muslim villages, which are unfamiliar to the general public. This is why the municipality projects and supports these Muslims events because they are very interesting and need to be displayed outside these settlements.
From all the above can be seen the interest of the local municipality to promote and develop culture in Egiros.
